“The Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science” are the substance of a series of lectures presented by Thomas Troward in Queen Street Hall, Edinburgh. The book version was completed in 1904. Judge Troward offers it as beginning point for study of the relationship between mental action and material conditions.

The material will be published here - basically unedited - one chapter ot lecture at a time. As always you will need to decide if the material offers value for your personal quest, but at the least, here is an experienced man, active in the world, who thought deeply and tried to honestly present his conclusions.

Certainly he is from an era much different than our own, but behind the phrases and the modes of speech embedded in his times, lie perceptions that have the potential to transcend the limitations of place and time.

Unfortunately our tendencies always lead us to seek material that agrees with our preconceptions and is expressed in terms we can easily understand and find agreeable. Few appreciate challenge despite what they may claim. Yet we each are capable of astonishing ourselves.

I present a variety of material here - some ridiculous as far as I’m concerned, some I find blatantly false and self-serving, some hilarious, some terrifying in what it suggests about the author and the author’s world view. Some I find brillliant, insightful and valuable. All these are value judgments that I make when I write here. Are they accurate? I can’t say and so I include them because I know there are some for which they may be the exact thing that will start them on whatever path they need to be on.

There wouldn’t be much here if I followed my personal evaluations of all the content and only posted what I personally find of value. Sometimes I share what I think - that’s one of the reasons behind the True Lies posts - but they are rare.
