Dr.Oz, Weight Loss and Fools Gold

By Richard Heft

On yesterdays'’ show (01/12/10), Dr. Oz had a well-known hypnotist, Paul McKenna (?) successful in weight loss, smoking and addiction. He agreed with the four golden rules of weight loss, most of which were fool’’s gold, according to traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines and common sense.

(1) When you are hungry, go eat because when you starve you lose weight in the short-run but you also slow your metabolism.

No, You are overweight, obese because you never restrain your hunger. You cannot just go and eat whenever you feel the urge, hunger as (a) you may be overeating and (b) may actually be hungry, ready for another meal.

The golden rule of health is daily diet, meal by meal, not snack by snack or continuous eating. The purpose of meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner is to guarantee not only most nutrition, balance but also consistent eating times, especially during the day, which train and keep digestion, maximizing absorption, blood, elimination, etc.

A balanced meal (1/3 protein and fat, 1/3 grain, 1/3 vegetables, 3- 5), fruit, spices, soup and or tea) leaves one nutritionally, energetically satisfied, without cravings. If your hunger is caused by unbalanced meals, then satisfying your hunger with unbalanced snacks just worsens your condition.

The best way to lose weight is to go hungry by eating less, spacing the meals, etc. Eat two meals a day, instead of three. Make dinner the lightest meal. If you crave snacks, sweets eat bread, rice cakes, peanut butter, jelly, carrots, celery, apples, yogurt, raisins, walnuts, etc. Step one of weight loss is eat quality snacks.

You will never lose weight unless you go hungry between meals. The ony ay you slow your metabolism is by eating less protein and fat. Protein and fat are the only two nutrients that build and fuel.

(2) Eat what you want not what you should, as soon as you forbid, do everything to eat the forbidden foods.

There is only negative value to eating poor quality foods: chips, fried foods, French fries, pizza, cookies, pastries, candies, etc. eating what you want got you into trouble the first place. you have to eat what the body wants, not what you think it wants. Treat the body like a car, read (intuit and experience) the manual and follow instructions. You have to eat the best quality foods: organically grown fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, nuts, seeds, dairy and or free range, antibiotic free eggs, chicken, turkey, etc. The rules, solutions are the same for everyone. If you do not forbid (keep them out of the house) bad foods, then how are you going to stop eating them?

(3) Eat consciously, focus on food, chewing and chew slowly.

This is true. you should focus on your food while you eat, but you also need to focus on your food before you buy, cook and eat. you are not raising your consciousness much less improving health when you focusing and chewing on poor quality food.

(4) When you think you are full stop eating.

No. You should stop eating before you are full, otherwise you will overwhelm and clog your stomach, pylorus and or duodenum (first section of small intestine) reducing and slowing digestion (abdominal bloating, gas, heartburn, etc.). The Chinese recommend that your stomach should be 1/2 full of solid foods, 1/4 liquid and 1/4 empty to allow the stomach to mix food and fluids (Hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes) increasing digestion and assimilation of nutrients.

(5) dieting only works in the short-term (first mentioned) but fails in the long-run.

Dieting only works in the short-run if the diet is not properly balanced, adjusted. Proper dieting, consistent meals and exercise (walking) always works, succeeds. Life is not a sprint. it is marathon.

Overeating causes excess weight, obesity. Unrestrained appetite causes overeating. Lack of discipline, exercise and most importantly, unbalanced diet causes overeating. The simple secret to weight loss and health is general is simple diet and a desire to succeed. Reflection is also a must. Are you really happy eating your diet, junk food? Do you like the way you look, feel? If the answer is no, then remember this question and answer every time you eat a bad food. I keep five-pound bags of organic carrots and apples in my refrigerator. You will never get fat on these foods only full.
